We shot Episode 3 of “Bands In Pajamas” this morning, featuring Nick Teehan and it was a blast – we shot some of it outside on my patio, whilst in pajamas, of course. Nick just launched his new excellent album, There Is Not A Snake this past week, so we are incredibly happy to have him!
Some moments of the shoot were very tender:
While other moments were hilarious:
The first episode of “Bands In Pajamas” will be online in the next few days, so if you’re a YouTube lover, feel free to subscribe to our YouTube channel, (www.youtube.com/user/TheJessicaStuartFew) and you’ll be first to know when these videos go online!
Inspired by a friend’s facebook post of Linda Manzer‘s ‘Pikasso’ guitar made for Pat Metheny, today’s post is about weirdo guitars. Although ‘Anyone Can Play Guitar‘, would you play these guitars?
‘Pikasso’ by Linda Manzer
This one should be called ‘X’. But seriously?? For the ambidextrous guitarist or something?
The Rifle. Pretty intense..
The backwards bass. I’ve seen this before, and it’s ridiculous so made it’s way in here – but doesn’t it look like it only has 2 strings sort of?
And finally, when you’re tired of looking for a case that will fit your strange-o guitar, just take a break…
On your GUITAR BOAT.
Honorable mentions go to the ‘wangcaster’, the pacman guitar, the unplayable guitar and the carved guitar that looks like it was made by a wood nymph.
Just for fun, here’s some fashion magazine covers from May 2012 & May 1962 – not making any statements in my cover shot choices, just find the comparisons really interesting! What do you think?

A huge thanks to attenders of the special show last night at Musideum – it was a really amazing place to play a show, and there should be video to follow soon! Here’s a little snap from the show:
My New York state travels were exciting (went down as a panelist for a music symposium at State University of NY)! I had a few near disasters, with tires going nearly flat on the highway, being caught in torrential rainstorms in the dark and so on, but my presentation on “Music As A Life Process” went well, and I feel better prepared now for this kind of presentation in the future.
The Western Canadian tour is shaping up! There are 11 tour dates booked, including dates in Vancouver, Victoria, Pender Island, Nanaimo, Kelowna, Enderby, Red Deer, and more! We’re really excited about Islands Folk Festival too and are in discussion with another great music festival on Vancouver Island as well. Check in with us in a week or so for our tour listings!
Really excited to play at the magical space at Musideum tonight (Sunday, April 29) – this will be our first time playing there, and basically our first fully acoustic show ever! The peformance will focus on our koto trio stuff mainly, and there will be tasty healthy snacks for attenders, and wine for purchase. It’s a pay what you can event, but we’re suggesting $10-20. Musideum is at 401 Richmond St West (just East of Spadina), main floor, and doors are at 7:15 will the event starting at 8pm and done by 10. You don’t have to reserve to get in, however, it will assure you sitting instead of standing! Reserve at 416-599-7323.
Wanna know how our second ‘Bands In Pajamas’ session went? Here’s a behind the scenes peek at Episode 2, featuring Words Around The Waist:
What fun! Hope to see you tonight and have a great Sunday.

Very excited to be invited back to showcase at NXNE 2012 (North By Northeast Music Festival/Conference)! This will be our third time, and it has always been a blast – the show will be June 14th, with more details to follow closer to the date.
Tomorrow I head south of the border to State University of NY, Oneonta campus to do a presentation on “Music As A Life Process” at a symposium of the same name. I’m incredibly honoured to be invited, (and also slightly nervous to present to the faculty/student body etc!), and am excited to have the experience. Anyone near Oneonta, NY know a good place to hang out on a Friday night? Message me!
Had an incredibly fun video shoot with Delta Will (Charles Tilden of Park & Rec) for our inaugural episode of Bands In Pajamas yesterday. Because it was only the two of us with our guitars (no koto!), we decided to shoot in the bathroom, which has great acoustics! Here’s a couple pics from yesterday’s shoot – subscribe to The Jessica Stuart Few YouTube channel to get alerted when this video bizness gets posted! (Thanks to Victoria Basova for the pics! I messed with a couple tho..)
The JSFew plays a very special early show this Sunday at Musideum – more info to follow, Toronto folks…

Yesterday I headed off in the rain to Stratford to watch the musical 42nd Street - I grew up on this musical, and remember singing various songs from it accompanied by my mother on piano as a child, so it was pretty nostalgic. Also, their costumes were very sparkly..
Here’s a couple more pics & a video link from the ‘Live In Bellwoods‘ shoot from last month:
Tonight is the album launch of great Toronto singer/songwriter/instrumentalist/personality Nick Teehan at the Tranzac main hall (292 Brunswick), 8pm start and with a crazy cast of openers, The Uplifters & The Woodshed Orchestra. Nick is really excellent, and we’ve shared the stage a couple of times including at our music video launch last year, and he’s also going to be featured in an upcoming episode of “Bands In Pajamas” (the new JSFew YouTube series!).
Here’s a little something from his brand new album:
Hope you’ll hit the Tranzac tonight to check out this killer band!
Really excited to post the 2nd live recording from our shoot at The Emmet Ray with the fellows from Big East (they also shot our “Here Comes The Rain” video that’s been going around!). This song is really special to me – no matter what’s is going on around me, this song is transporting – I always find myself sort of waking up onstage after the last notes. Hope you’ll take a listen.
Now that we’re actually using our YouTube channel, I hope you’ll subscribe, if you’re into that sort of thing, share vids, and leave comments – we’re super new to this, so hope you seasoned YouTubers will show us the ropes!
Lastly, a huge thanks to the many wonderful, responsive folks who came to The Painted Lady last night -it was a great night with Katie DuTemple & Marylou David and we hope to do it again soon!
